The company, which is privately owned, is intensely proud of the fact that it is an Irish company with a primarily Irish customer base.
The guiding principles of the company are to provide its customers with a choice of good quality products at competitive prices. These principles are encapsulated in the words "Better Value" for which Dunnes Stores has become famous.
A combination of Food, Textiles and Homewares all under one roof makes Dunnes Stores unique amongst Irish retail companies.
Customers can find a comprehensive variety of fashionable clothing for Ladies, Men and Children.
The Homewares department has a full range of items for every room in the home. The Food department sells a full range of branded and own brand products.
The "St. Bernard" brand was founded in 1956, it remains today a byword for value in retailing.
Customers will also find product branded "Dunnes Stores" which represents the company's offer across Textiles, Homewares and Food of product equivalent to the best branded offer, but at much keener prices.

The First store in Northern Ireland opened in 1971 and this expansion continued rapidly. The first venture abroad was in Spain on the Costa del Sol. That was in 1980, and since then four more stores have opened.
The Company further expanded into the UK with Textile only stores. There are currently 6 stores in various parts of England and the Company made its first move into the Scottish market with the acquisition of a store in Glasgow in 2000, a second store in Glenrothes in 2002, a third store in Clydebank in 2004, a fourth in Parkhead, followed by a fifth, Cumbernauld in 2007.
